UHealth’s Blanca Rivera Named to Florida Board of Pharmacy

Florida Governor Rick Scott has appointed Blanca Rivera, M.Pharm., M.B.A., executive director of pharmacy for the University of Miami Health System, to the Florida Board of Pharmacy.

The Board of Pharmacy is responsible for the licensure, monitoring and education of pharmacy professionals to assure competency and safety to practice in their service to the people of Florida.

Rivera fills a vacant seat, and her term began August 25 and ends October 31, 2019.

“I am very happy that our governor has given me the opportunity to serve the public,” she said. “I am also excited to give back to the profession that has given me so much.”

Rivera joined UHealth in 2002 as director of pharmacy services. In her current role, she oversees pharmacy operations for three hospitals, six outpatient pharmacy satellites, non-hospital-based clinics and approximately 200 contract pharmacy arrangements, while managing 200 employees.

She received a B.S. in pharmacy from the Nova Southeastern College of Pharmacy, a B.S. in chemistry and an M.S. in pharmacoeconomics from the University of Florida, and an M.B.A. from Stetson University. She is a candidate for the Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Shenandoah University’s Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy.
