UHealth Welcomes Pediatric Neurosurgeon Heather J. McCrea

Heather J. McCrea, M.D., Ph.D., has joined the University of Miami Health System as assistant professor of clinical neurological surgery.

Clinical specialty:  pediatric neurosurgery

Research interests: Her current research focuses on understanding and developing new treatments for pediatric brain tumors, drug delivery across the blood brain barrier, intra-arterial chemotherapy for high grade glioma and diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), and concussion/traumatic brain injury.

Education:  M.D. — Yale University School of Medicine, M.D./Ph.D. program

Ph.D. in cell biology — Yale University School of Medicine, M.D./Ph.D. program and Department of Cell Biology

Residency — Neurological surgery, New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Department of Neurological Surgery

Fellowship — John Shillito Staff Associate/Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship, Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School

Languages spoken:  English; can understand and speak some Spanish

Practice location:  Holtz Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center
