Ping Yang, Ph.D. Named Director of Cytogenetics

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is excited to announce that Ping Yang, Ph.D., will join the faculty as clinical associate professor and serve as director of cytogenetics.

“Dr. Yang is a seasoned clinical and molecular cytogeneticist with extensive leadership and operations experience,” commented Merce Jorda, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A, professor and chair of the department. “She will have an immediate impact on our laboratory services and patient care,” she added.

Dr. Yang received her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from York University and the University of Toronto in Canada. After completing fellowships in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics, she served as head of the Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory at Victoria Hospital, London Health Centre, London, Canada. While there, she especially worked to validate and implement new tests and focused on improving protocols to increase sensitivity and reduce cost and turnaround time.

Dr. Yang also has taught cytogenetics, pathology, and hematology. She looks forward to working with the department’s residents and fellows.
