Pathologist Dr. Andre Pinto Promoted to Clinical Associate Professor

Andre Pinto, M.D., has been promoted to clinical associate professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

He is a respected leader of several programs across the department and we are proud to see Dr. Pinto evolve from resident to trusted colleague,” said Merce Jorda, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., professor and Joseph R. Coulter, Jr. Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine who sponsored Dr. Pinto’s application for promotion.

Dr. Pinto received his M.D. degree from the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil and subsequently completed his residency in internal medicine. From 2009 to 2013, he completed his residency training in pathology at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was board certified in both clinical and anatomic pathology. At the Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital, he completed fellowships in surgical pathology, and gynecologic and genitourinary pathology.

Dr. Pinto currently serves as director of the Pathology Residency Program, director of Gynecologic Pathology, and director of the Breast and Gynecologic Pathology Fellowship Program. In addition, he is the director of Anatomic Pathology Operations for the Jackson Health System.

As an active collaborator with clinicians across the Miller School, Dr. Pinto authors and co-authors several papers and presentations annually. His main research interests include morphologic features and diagnostic/prognostic biomarkers of gynecologic malignancies, with focus in mesenchymal neoplasms.
