Miller School of Medicine Wins the UMadness in March Giving Challenge

For a second consecutive year, the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine took first place in UM’s UMadness in March giving challenge.

Thanks to a strong showing by alumni, the Miller School had the highest percentage participation of alumni donors in the yearly challenge – 2.13 percent, followed by the School of Law in second place with 1.47 percent.

“Once again, our alumni came through for us, and we are incredibly grateful for their support,” said Edward Abraham, M.D., Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, CEO of UHealth, and Dean and Chief Academic Officer of the Miller School of Medicine.

The UMadness in March giving challenge was created three years ago after an anonymous donor offered $10,000 – $5,000 to the UM school with the most donors in March, and $5,000 to the school with the highest participation percentage of donors.

Alumni were encouraged throughout the month to donate a gift of any size to help the medical school in the annual fundraising event, which promotes friendly competition, and bragging rights, among UM’s schools and colleges.

The win earns the Miller School $5,000 toward scholarships, which will support the John K. Robinson fund in support of scholarships and travel grants.

In the category of total number of donors, the Miller School took fourth place with 184 donors. The first place finisher was the Miami Business School with 480 donors, followed by the College of Arts and Sciences with 431.
