Miami Project Researcher Publishes Seminal Book on Physics of Mind and Brain Disorders

Ioan Opris, Ph.D., associate scientist at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, has edited and published The Physics of the Mind and Brain Disorders (Springer), a groundbreaking book about the physics of the mind.

Edited by Opris in collaboration with colleague Manuel F. Casanova, M.D., of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, the book explores recent advances in the understanding of brain structure, functionality and cognitive disorders based on fundamental principles of physics. It offers a broad look at topics ranging from introspection, behaviorism, and the cognitive revolution to new discoveries in neuroimaging and electrophysiology.

The book covers a wide range of physical phenomena occurring in the brain circuits for perception, cognition, emotion and action, representing the building blocks of the mind. It also provides novel insights into devastating brain disorders, such as schizophrenia, dementia, autism, aging, or addictions, as well as into the new devices for brain repair.

The book is intended for basic researchers in the fields of neuroscience, physics, and biophysics, and clinicians in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery, psychology, and psychiatry. More information is available on the publisher’s website.
