Faculty Senate Honors Dr. Kara Cavuoto with Teaching Award

The Faculty Senate voted Jan. 29 to honor two exceptional members of the University of Miami faculty with its prestigious awards. Kara Cavuoto, M.D., associate professor of clinical ophthalmology at the Miller School of Medicine, will receive the Outstanding Teaching Award, which is presented annually to a faculty member in acknowledgement of their excellence and a distinguished record of teaching.

Michael Froomkin, J.D., Laurie Silvers and Mitchell Rubenstein Distinguished Professor of Law in the School of Law, will receive the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award in recognition of his outstanding scholarly achievement and dedication.

In appreciation of their contributions to their chosen fields, Professors Cavuoto and Froomkin will receive their awards at the Faculty Senate Awards ceremony on Monday, April 13, at 5 p.m. on the Coral Gables campus. After receiving the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award, Professor Froomkin will present a short lecture on his research. A reception will follow.

Last November, the Faculty Senate voted to award the James W. McLamore Outstanding Service Award to R. Stephen Cantrell, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics in the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Cantrell’s award will also be presented at the annual awards ceremony.

All members of the University community are invited to attend the ceremony.
