Dr. Tatjana Rundek Named President of the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission Vascular Testing Board

Tatjana Rundek, M.D., Ph.D., professor of neurology and Evelyn F. McKnight Chair for Learning and Memory in Aging at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, has been named president of the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) Vascular Testing Board.

Dr. Tatjana Rundek

I am extremely honored and excited to work with the wonderful board members to advance the IAC’s mission to improve high-quality care through accreditation,” said Dr. Rundek, who also serves as scientific director of the Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute. “For the next two years I will have an opportunity to work on increasing the number of accredited vascular testing facilities, particularly of neurovascular testing services, and on improvement of patient care though quality improvement programs and implementation research.”

Besides being a member of the IAC, Dr. Rundek is also a representative of the American Academy of Neurology and American Society of Neuroimaging. Her expertise as a stroke neurologist, clinical researcher, and principal investigator of several R01 grants has given her the background needed to move the IAC forward as it enters its 30th year.

“The IAC is a critical organization with a mission to assure high quality for vascular testing,” said Ralph L. Sacco, M.D., M.S., professor and chair of neurology, the Olemberg Family Chair of Neurological Disorders, and senior associate dean for clinical and translational science at the Miller School. “Dr. Rundek is an international expert in carotid ultrasound and the perfect leader to help IAC advance the quality of health care for our patients.”

“Congratulations to Dr. Rundek for her appointment to the IAC presidency, as the first neurologist in the history of the organization,” said Sebastian Koch, M.D., professor of neurology and director of the Cesarano Neurovascular Ultrasound Laboratory in the Department of Neurology. “I think this highlights the IAC’s emphasis on the importance of neuroimaging. We are proud to have our laboratory IAC certified for over 15 years now and look forward to working together with Dr. Rundek and the IAC to maintain the high standards of patient care in our community.”

The Intersocietal Accreditation Commission is a non-profit organization that began with the creation of the IAC Vascular Testing Board, formerly the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories. Today, the IAC provides accreditation programs for vascular testing, nuclear/PET, MRI, diagnostic CT, dental CT, carotid-stenting, vein treatments, and cardiac testing. The IAC programs for accreditation are dedicated to ensuring quality patient care and promoting health care, and all support one common mission: improving health care through accreditation.
