Regarded as the most important academic and educational society in the subspecialty of ear and skull base surgery, ANS provides robust networking opportunities for specialists in educational conferences and sponsorship of research by young investigators. The society also focuses on trainee education and diversity.

A member of ANS for nearly 30 years, Dr. Telischi has been an at-large member of the ANS council, served on the educational committee, participated on educational panels, and co-authored scientific presentations at society conferences. In his role as president-elect, Dr. Telischi attended meetings of the ANS leadership council and participated in deliberations regarding conference agendas, priority-setting, and other communications.

Presidency in Action

As president of ANS, Dr. Telischi will lead biannual national conferences, set and approve educational agendas, and coordinate strategies with the executive council, along with other responsibilities.

“I would like to build on the strength and vibrant reputation of ANS by guiding educational and outreach programs to be as relevant as possible to member needs,” Dr. Telischi said. “I will be working to ensure that our annual meetings continue to provide rich, varied content and new ideas to attendees.

“I am particularly excited to explore how evolving technologies can enable us to develop creative new ways to provide education, facilitate member interaction, and disseminate new ideas,” Dr. Telischi noted. “For example, we’ll be looking at innovative ways to restructure some aspects of the annual meetings to foster exciting, real-time interactions during presentations.

“I’m equally committed to continuing our diversity efforts and to encouraging advocacy for more efficient translation of proven new treatments to bedside patient care.”

At the Miller School, Dr. Telischi focuses his research on hearing loss and treatment with surgery, inner ear medication drug delivery, and auditory implants. His previous leadership roles in prominent associations devoted to his medical specialties include membership on the board of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, serving as chair of its Hearing Device committee, and presiding over scientific programming of the American Cochlear Implant Alliance.

“These experiences will inform and influence my ANS presidency year and help me build on my predecessors’ successes,” Dr. Telischi said.
