The list honors CIOs for their dedication to improving health via information technology (IT). The 113 recognized leaders are responsible for leading talented teams, guiding Information technology strategies, integrating new technologies, expanding telehealth, improving cybersecurity and more.

“I’m grateful for this prestigious career recognition,” said Dr. Reis, who joined UHealth in June of 2020 and oversees its medical informatics, security, data and technology efforts. “As we continue to advance technology in the health care space, it creates a more efficient hospital operating system for practitioners and patients alike, which can ultimately be lifesaving.”

Among the major achievements under Dr. Reis’ leadership, UHealth recently became the first health system in South Florida, and one of the first in the industry, to implement Cheers, Epic’s customer relationship management (CRM) platform. The platform has enhanced the health system’s customer service by seamlessly integrating between multiple portals to quickly record contact information, review correspondence histories, monitor outstanding issues and flag issues for follow-up by routing details between appropriate user pools, staff members or work queues.

For the past three years, UHealth IT has also won a CIO 100 award for multiple projects, including automating its entire COVID-19 vaccination process to ensure that inoculations were administered swiftly and safely; implementing a remote monitoring device for discharged COVID-19 patients; and adding Epic’s electronic medical record system capabilities to the Game Changer community outreach vehicles operated by Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Further improving the health system’s access portals for patients and employees, UHealth and the Miller School of Medicine recently announced a collaboration with CLEAR, the secure identity company, to develop and roll out a series of system integrations with the goal of improving patient and employee experiences.

According to Becker’s Healthcare, the creation of novel technologies and cyber systems is ushering in an era of growth and innovation in the health care industry. Top CIOs are adopting these technologies and health IT initiatives to enhance the patient and provider experience in their hospitals and health systems.

The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team accepted nominations and curated the list to highlight the great work of CIOs from hospitals and health systems across the nation.
