Dr. Catalina Amador Joins the Division of Hematopathology

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Miller School welcomes Catalina Amador, M.D., to the Division of Hematopathology. In the division, Dr. Amador will serve as a clinical associate professor and director of leukemia service and the director of the Fellowship in Hematopathology program.

Dr. Amador most recently served as associate professor of pathology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. After obtaining her M.D. degree from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, she completed her pathology residency at Washington University in St. Louis and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, where she also completed a fellowship in surgical pathology. Her fellowship in hematopathology was completed at Northwestern University.

Dr. Amador is board-certified in both anatomic and clinical pathology. While at Nebraska, she served as themedical director of the Bone Marrow Laboratory. As a co-investigator in several NIH-funded grants, her clinical research focuses on translational projects on the pathological and molecular characterization of peripheral T-cell lymphoma. Recent publications include a review on genetic profiling and biomarkers in this type of cancer and how to diagnose anaplastic large cell lymphoma.

Dr. Chapman’s feelings were echoed by Merce Jorda, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., and chair of the department. “Hematopathology plays a key role in the incredible diagnostic and treatment options provided to patients battling cancer,” Dr. Jorda said. “Dr. Amador will be an amazing complement to our strong faculty in this specialty.”
