Comprehensive Diabetes Center at Lennar awarded ADA Certificate of Recognition
The University of Miami Health System’s Comprehensive Diabetes Center, located in The Lennar Foundation Medical Center on UM’s Coral Gables campus, has been awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the American Diabetes Association.

The center received the certification, which extends through October 1, 2021, for the high quality of its diabetes self-management education program. Programs that achieve recognition status have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who can provide state-of-the-art information about diabetes management.
“Our mission is to provide quality diabetes self-management education and training,” said Rajesh Garg, M.D., professor of medicine and director of the Comprehensive Diabetes Center. “It is our belief that education is at the core of empowering patients to better manage their disease and prevent diabetes-related complications in order to optimize their health and well-being.”
The Comprehensive Diabetes Center complies with the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support, which are endorsed by the American Diabetes Association. To qualify for recognition, a center must have patients go through an education cycle that involves both one-on-one training and group education with a certified diabetes educator. There are nine education content areas that must be covered, and there should be evidence of ongoing collaboration across disciplines.
“We have developed internal resources that allow for data capture around goals related to diabetes or health behaviors, as well as evaluation of learning,” said Garg. “We provide patient support throughout this process and during their follow-up sessions at the center. For patients, the Certificate of Recognition is their assurance that they will receive high-quality education and support.”
