Check Cashing USA Makes Gift to Breast Cancer Research at Sylvester

To support breast cancer research, Check Cashing USA recently made a $20,000 donation to Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, South Florida’s only nationally ranked and NCI-designated cancer center based on rankings by U.S. News & World Report.

Owner and chief operating officer of Check Cashing USA, Brian Socolow, presented the gift. “Check Cashing USA is always looking for ways to give back to our community,” Socolow said. “Ownership and staff are passionate about raising money for causes we believe in.”

Socolow’s desire to support breast cancer research comes from his experience of losing his mother to the disease.

“Raising money for breast cancer research and awareness is particularly important to me because my mom passed from this terrible disease when I was just a teenager,” said Socolow. “Cancer affects everyone at some point in their lives.”

The company raised the funds by doing an in-store campaign encouraging customers to donate and putting their name on a sticker wall to raise awareness. They also ran a UCARE page to encourage their network to donate online.

“We are so appreciative of Check Cashing USA’s efforts to support breast cancer research at Sylvester,” said Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., director of Sylvester, Oscar de la Renta Endowed Chair in Cancer Research, and executive dean for research at the Miller School of Medicine. “Breast cancer touches the lives of so many people, and this type of grassroots fundraising not only helps with the research itself but raises awareness and hope among the community.”
