About the Miller School of Medicine
The University of Miami School of Medicine, founded in 1952, was Florida’s first medical school. The Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine now includes 21 clinical departments, 6 basic science departments, 45 centers and institutes, and 23 administrative groups, with more than 1,400 faculty members. South Florida’s cultural diversity makes it a medical training ground of unmatched opportunity.
The Miller School continues to move up in the national rankings of research medical schools, climbing to No. 44 in the 2017 edition of Best Graduate Schools published by U.S. News & World Report — a gain of 12 positions in the past 10 years. The Miller School also rose to No. 39 of 139 schools ranked by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research based on research grants received from the National Institutes of Health during the 2016 federal fiscal year.
The Miller School’s educational mission is growing along with the accelerated expansion of the University of Miami Health System. The school’s groundbreaking M.D./M.P.H. program is one of several dual-degree offerings; students can also combine an M.D. with a Ph.D., an M.B.A., a J.D., or an M.S. in genomic medicine.
